- James A. Garfield
- Elected in 1880

- He was shot and eventually died from this incident
- Does the bible make a distinction?
- Matthew 12:31
- Luke 12:47-48
- John 19:11
- 1 Corinthians 6:18
- What does this distinction mean?
- That smaller sins aren’t harmful? – Romans 3:23
- That bigger sins condemn us further? – Romans 6:23
- That forgiveness isn’t the same for all sins? – 1 John 1:7
- What does this distinction mean?
- Some sins affect those around us – Murder, theft, lying, greed
- Some sins affect our bodies – Homosexuality, gluttony
- Some sins only affect our relationship with God – Disbelief, judgement of others
- But are the consequences any different?
- What about us?
- Sometimes we doubt God’s forgiveness of us, what then?
- 1 Tim. 1:15-16
- 1 John 3:19-24
- We’re forgetting about who is the one forgiving us
- The consequence is the same and so is the cure
- 1 John 1:7-9
- 1 Peter 1:17-19
- John 3:16-21
- When we doubt…
- We doubt our God who is all-powerful – Matthew 19:25-26
- We doubt our savior who is all-sufficient for us – Hebrews 7:25
- We doubt the word that he gave to us
